The Pink Pigeon (Nesoenas mayeri) is endemic to Mauritius. It has been saved from extinction by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Government of Mauritius since 1977 through a captive breeding and release programme in the Black River Gorges National Park, Ile aux Aigrettes, Bambou Mountains and Chamarel.
